Diploma in Wedding Planning

Since planning and organising my wedding earlier this year, and it all turning out better than I could have ever imagined, I decided to look into this industry as a career change. As such, I am currently studying a Diploma in Wedding Planning through the International Career Institute in Sydney, via correspondence. Although this may not be of interest to all people, and may seen as having nothing to do with my current job, it actually does. From what I have covered thus far, I have looked at how to deal with stressed out people in a very stressful situation. I believe the tips I have picked up so far, and those I will continue to pick up, will not only give me the qualifications to become a Wedding Planner, but will also assist in many different scenarios in my current job. I am not sure as yet, what I will do once I have completed this course, but it is definately a long term career option I am interested in.

Audacity

Today, instead of looking at work related tutorials, I thought I would check out Audacity. The main reason being is that I just got a new mobile phone and I want to edit a track to use as my ring tone.

I worked through the majority of the tutorials and found it all very interesting. When I actually go to use it for myself, I will no doubt need to refer back to the tutorials to make sure what I am doing is correct, but at a first glance I found the tutorials to be helpful.

I have just worked through the tutorials on the following:

Changing the normal template

It is great to finally know how to do this I have always found it frustrating, that every time a new Word document was opened, I had to change the font, size, spacing etc. I’ve now set my normal template to be Eterna 10.5pt with single spacing. Yay!

If you don’t already know how to do this, then it may be worth having a look!

Assigning a password to a document

Not sure if I will ever need to use this one, but helpful none the less.

Google Docs

After hearing Paula speak about Google Docs in a recent Admin meeting, I am interested to see what it is all about. Not sure yet of what use it will be to me, but there is only one way to find out. I’ve created an account, so here I go …

Even though I use Word every single day, there are still many aspect of the software that I would like to know more about. Thus far I have worked through the tutorials regarding AutoCorrect and AutoFormat, which I found helpful and useful.

GroupWise 7

I’ve skimmed through the GroupWise tutorials but none of the headings really grabbed me, as I feel I already know what I need to know. I’ve used GroupWise enough to be able to teach myself and find things out just by looking around.

The main area I’ve found tricky in the past, was setting rules. The following tutorials explained how to do this well. I just need to remember to turn the rules off!

Creating/editing/deleting a rule
Creating a vacation rule or auto-reply
Enabling & disabling a rule

Acrobat Pro 9 (Intro)

I’ve started my learning journey with the following tutorials for Acrobat Pro 9 …

Becoming familiar with the interface
Converting images to PDF
Creating a PDF from an Office document
Emailing a PDF file
Adding text box comments
Extracting pages
Printing a PDF file
Opening & closing a PDF file
Reducing the file size
Converting web pages to PDF
Using bookmarks & the pages pane
Inserting/replacing/rotating/rearranging/cropping pages
Using the marquee, dynamic, pan & zoom tools
Using the loupe tool
Touching up text & changing text properties
Modifying line art
Changing the background
Creating automatic web links

Some of the information contained in these tutorials I already knew & was fairly basic, but they were still good to watch to see what Atomic Learning is all about in the first instance, as well as to refresh my memory of things.

I will be able to use several things I have learnt by watching these tutorials, in many aspects of my role.

If Acrobat is something you use, then you might find this handy.

I needed to extract some pages from a document today (just as I saw in a tutorial) but for some reason I didn’t have all the menus. I went back through Atomic Learning but nothing showed me how to keep/move/hide tool bars/menus.

After some ‘googling’ I came across some online help through Adobe. Very helpful! I now have my tool bars and menus and am able to do what I please

Learning Journey Goals

I am looking forward to creating my own personal learning plan and working through each of the different tutorials through Atomic Learning. My goals are as follows:

To become more familiar with Acrobat 9
To enhance my current knowledge by working through Intermediate/Advanced Word and Excel tutorials
To know more about GroupWise to ensure I am using it to it’s full potential
To learn more about how to effectively use PowerPoint and all of it’s functionality
To become familiar with Photoshop

These are only a few items I have thought of so far. I am interested in learning anything that is going to benefit me.

I think iGoogle is great! I enjoy having all of my favourites on the one page and being able to personalize it whenever and as often as I like. I just need to get into the habit of using it more.
